Son Serra de Marina
2021 – 2021
An ecosystem refuge, a minimal dwelling designed from materials we could find in the
sand dune systems of Son Serra de Marina.
With an almost naive geometry, simple and austere as if it were a fisherman's hut from 100 years ago.
Two volumes come together; one double height for good air circulation during the hot months, and the other sloping, with a window on the ceiling that illuminates the room and brings the sun in the cold months.
On the north side is the porch, the best space in summer to shelter from the sun and also from the stormy winds that cool the whole house.

The sandstone from the quarry of Cas Vilafranquer de Petra, 10 minutes by truck from
Son Serra, is grouted with lime cement.
In winter, the only source of energy needed is the wood stove and the natural warmth
from the sun thanks to the orientation of the stained glass windows.
The insulation is made from recycled cotton from the textile industry and natural cork is
used in the roof and flooring.
Son Serra is a somewhat isolated place, very little inhabited in winter, and that gives it a
The presence of the north winds, the sea and the mountains of the Serra
de Artà make it a very magical place.
